Nothing says comfort food like a bowl of French Onion Soup!
Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 1 large onion
- 3 cloves fresh garlic
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 packet of Splendor Garden Organic Onion Dip Mix
- ½ tbsp Splendor Garden Organic Seasoning Salt
- 1 tbsp gluten free flour
- 5 springs fresh parsley chopped
- 5 slices of gluten free bread
- Grated cheese of choice
Instructions
The key to great onion soup is frying the onions until fully caramelized. Start with chopping and frying your onion and garlic. Use a cast iron pan for the most caramelization. Add butter and sautéed onions and garlic until dark and caramelized. Add the maple syrup to mixture when browning has started.
While waiting for onions and garlic to caramelize boil the water and add the entire packet of Onion Dip Mix, Seasoning Salt, and chopped fresh parsley. Grate cheese and set aside. Prepare croutons. Chop bread into ½ inch squares and bake in oven at 350°F until crusty. Set aside.
Once the onions have properly caramelized stir in the gluten free flour and incorporate fully. Add onions and garlic to pot of soup. Stir until boiling and thickened. Spoon soup into 4 oven safe bowls. Add croutons and shredded cheese and broil for 1 minute or until brown on top. Watch your bowls carefully as they can burn quickly! Sit back, relax, and enjoy.
