Mustard is one of those condiments that have been around for many, many years. To make mustard, it is fairly simple to make by taking mustard seeds, vinegar, water, oil, sugar and other spices, depending on your desired flavour. When creating your own mustard, it all comes down to the mustard seed...brown or yellow.
There is a difference between the yellow and brown mustard seeds. The level of heat in these seeds definitely differ, so you want to make sure if you are making your own mustard, keep this in mind. Yellow mustard seeds are more mild than the brown seeds, where as the brown seeds much more spicier.
The yellow mustard seeds also have more of a tangy flavour than the brown seeds. When it comes to substituting one for the other, the brown mustard is more pungent, therefore, you aren't having to use as much as you would with yellow seeds.
